Mr. John Sophit, Inspector of Bor Seth District Police Inspectorate, said that a 20-year-old monk named Vat Sok Viet, living at Wat Thom Mongkul in Trapeang Phlong Village, Pheary Meanchey Commune, Bor Seth District, Kampong Speu Province, filed a complaint. On the night of September 30, 2022, he was abducted by a group of suspects who stole an iPhone and 20,000 Khmer Riel when he left the pagoda to buy cigarettes.

He added that immediately after receiving the complaint, the specialized force launched an investigation to identify the suspects and arrested them for questioning, including arresting three monks. Phon Makara, 16 years old, Doeun Vandeth, 16 years old, and Roeun Theara, 14 years old, who was studying at the pagoda, came to the inspectorate.

Mr. John Sophit said that under the interrogation of the competent authorities, the three monks admitted that they had indeed disguised themselves in civilian clothes and robbed the monk named Vat Sok Viet, and after the robbery, they returned to the pagoda. Instead of wearing a normal blanket.

After receiving the confession, on the morning of October 2, 2022, he was sent to the Department of Cults and Religions for decapitation and continued the procedure.
