Authorities Detain Suspect and Release Woman Involved in Illegal Detention for Extortion
Svay Rieng Province: Bavet City Police arrested a suspect and freed a Chinese woman in connection with a case of illegal detention and extortion.
According to Bavet police, this morning, October 5, 2022, the suspect was a 39-year-old Chinese man named Wang Xitong, a resident of Nemongkou, China. He was arrested at 4 o'clock. In the afternoon of October 3, 2022, at the flat in Ta Bip village, Bavet commune, Bavet city, Svay Rieng province.
The victim was Li Zhan, a 43-year-old Chinese woman living in Chongqing, China.
In front of the police, the victim explained that on September 15, 2022, four Chinese nationals were taken into custody and threatened to call home for $ 8,000 to be released.
